Fw-190D V63 CS+IA, prototype for the D-12 series
Winter 1944-45

History:

Even as production of the Fw 190 D-9 was initiated, efforts were underway to improve the aircraft's high-altitude performance. The Fw 190 D-12 was first planned for in the summer of 1944, to be equipped with the Jumo 213F engine, with improved high-altitude capabilities, and an armament of two 20mm cannon in the wing roots and one 30mm engine-mounted weapon, firing thrpough the spinner boss. Three prototypes were planned, the V63, V64, and V65. The Fw 190 D-12 V63 appeared in October of 1944, and joined the Focke-Wulf test program. The D-12 proved to be a success, but a bombing raid on the Rheinmetall-Borsig factory, where the Mk 108 30mm cannon were produced, led to a shortage of these weapons, and it is highly unlikely any production aircraft appeared before the end of the war. The D-13 was a direct result of the D-12 program, with the 30mm "moteur-cannon" being replaced by a 20mm weapon.

After the war, this aircraft was captured intact, and there are several pictures of this machine with a G.I. posing in it. Its fate is unknown.

Colors:

I believe this Dora is in the typical late-war color scheme of dark green and medium gray upper surfaces, with light blue-gray undersurfaces. As a prototype, it had alterations made to the airframe, and was probably repainted in a haphazard fashion, giving it a "patchwork" appearance.

I do not guarantee that this plane will work on your system. It works on mine, sorry but everyone else has to figure it out for themselves. It was designed using the best information I could find that it would be compatible, and at the very least cause no harm, but I offer no warrantees. Your computer blows up, you are on your own.

This archive contains only model and texture files. Jumo sound package version 1.1 and Dora Cockpit Panel version 1.0 are available as separate downloads for these aircraft. Alternatively, you can either alias them to your favorite CFS2 stock plane, or another Fw 190D already installed on your computer. The .DP file references weapons included in a separate Dora weapons pack version 1.2.
